Five Stages of Group Development
Tuckman's five stages of group development describes in good detail about the process and effort of forming a good hardworking group. In the forming stage the group must decide how much work each member must do, what tasks they have to accomplish, as well as the main focus of the project. This stage I think is where a plan starts to form on the groups main task. In the second stage is where groups start to run into problems with issues that may or may not be related to the group entirely and is where I think most groups fall apart. If the group is still standing after stage two then stage three is where personal conflict about issues or about the groups direction begin to heal, giving each member of the group a place to share ideas and not worry about failure. The fourth stage is where the group focuses more on the main goal than any stage and also is where each group member feels more independent allowing the formation of subgroups. This stage I think is a good way of moving forward if the group doesn't need that much guidance. The fifth stage takes place after the main goal is accomplished and is the time for the group to separate. Separation from the group may cause a minor crises in ones self due to the fact of ending relationships.
